Since the founding of the Hong Kong Federation of Women in 1993, our service to the community has grown extensively. In order to meet the public's massive demand for our services, Mrs. Peggy Lam, Chairperson of HFKW sought support from the District Land Office for granting us the adjacent plot of land for building a new centre which would cater well to the public's needs for many years to come. Our application for this piece of land was subsequently approved, and we would like to express our heartful appreciation and gratitude to the Government for supporting our service to the community.
In our next stage of fundraising for construction of the centre, Mrs. Lam spoke to Mr. Walter Kwok of the Sun Hung Kai Group, who was kind enough to support us by recommending us to Mrs. Kwok Kwong Siu Hing and the T.S. Kwok Foundation. We were overwhelmed by the foundation's generous donation of HK$13,000,000 for the centre's construction and the purchase of equipment and furniture.
