The Hong Kong Federation of Women (HKFW) was established on June 28, 1993. The Federation is a non-profit making and non-political organization. The main objectives of which are to unite women from all walks of life to take an interest in Hong Kong affairs, to improve and protect the lawful rights of women, and to liaise with women organizations all over the world.
Members of the Federation come from various levels, occupations, races, and districts in Hong Kong, among members are business women, professionals, workers and housewives as well as those who are fervent in women's development and advancement. The membership of the Federation is over 1,000, with over 60 corporate members, hence reaching a total of over 100,000 members.
HKFW has always taken the lead to encourage and subsidze local women organizations to develop their community affairs in order to build up a harmonious society. Under the outstanding leadership of the Council and the senior members, together with the unfailing support, dedication and enthusiastic participation of its members,the HKFW has organized numerous major events, prominent projects and meaningful services annually to realize its objectives and mission. Position Papers on community issues and government policies have been submitted to the HKSAR Government to advocate women's opinions and views on public issues. The vocational training courses organized at the three HKFW Retraining Centres providing women with skills and knowledge to cope with their needs have achieved promising results.
To cater for the educational needs of women and children in the mainland, 23 vocational training schools had been built in the mountainous areas and 5 vehicle were donated for women and youths's benefit in Northwestern China.
All that the Federation has accomplised has gained constant support and recognition from the general public. The Federation will continue to tap on the valuable resources, talents and potentials of its members, to solicit their contributions and participation to strive for excellence and for the betterment and harmony of Hong Kong.
